Serej Ley

Serej is a molecular epidemiologist with an MSc in molecular biology and a PhD in microbiology. She has several years of international (Switzerland, Papua New Guinea, Australia, South Africa) work exposure in multidisciplinary environments. She has experience in various fields including laboratory and field work implementation and coordination, different molecular methods used in molecular parasitology and infection biology, qualitative and quantitative data analysis, as well as contributing to the development of national and international health policy. Serej joined the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Stellenbosch University in 2016 when she started her current position as a postdoc in the Division of Molecular Biology and Human Genetics. Her work focuses on the evolution and population structure of drug resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) within and between hosts, using whole genome sequencing.
