The Tuberculosis Omics ResearCH (TORCH) consortium is a FWO-funded collaboration between the University of Antwerp, Belgium (the Global Health Institute (GHI), Family Medicine and Population Health, and VAXINFECTIO) and the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa (DSI/NRF Centre of Excellence for Biomedical Tuberculosis Research and the South African Tuberculosis Bioinformatics Initiative (SATBBI)). The TORCH consortium is actively generating and analysing large quantities of ‘omcis data for Mycobacterium tuberculosis such as genome, transcriptome, methylome and proteome data. TORCH collaborates closely with the Advanced Database Research and Modelling (ADReM) group, the Biomedical Informatics Research Center Antwerp (Biomina) at the University of Antwerp. These groups focus on big data analyses, and have expertise in data mining and management, bioinformatics, biomedical informatics, molecular networks and computational systems biology. Additionally, the TORCH consortium actively collaborates with the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp, a world-leading institute for training and research in tropical medicine and the organisation of health care in developing countries.
